The SEO Basket

Who said this? Probably Google guys thought it up. Again the logic which is applicable here is that a website with lots of content must be providing lots of information. I think it is a fair deal. The only problem is that guys like me have to say things in thousands of words where a few would suffice. Thanks to this ‘content is king’ philosophy, many writers have got jobs, writing, rewriting and replicating information, so much so that we read the same stuff again and again.

Links
Never underestimate the power of links. Web masters have been buying, selling and living on links – something like an elixir of life. The formula is to have as many incoming links as possible. There is an idea running around that outgoing links are also helpful though I am quite wary of this. If you ask me, I would never take the risk of adding outgoing links. To me it is like showing the door to visitors. No thanks, I might as well live with lower ranking than lose precious traffic.

Keyword
Huh. This is the most important word of the twentieth century. What are the three secrets of SEO? Keyword, keyword and keyword. I can write volumes on this subject (and I warn you I will). Today I will only say that keyword is critical for your search engine ranking. But overdo it and Google will blacklist you and you are out of business. It is a tightrope of sorts which SEO guys must walk.

Video
YouTube came and changed the way we look at video. Here is another great tool to be used by SEO specialists. There are hundreds of other video sites but YouTube is special. If you want to get ranked up the ladder and fast, uploading your video to YouTube is a good bet. I am quite eager to get into the intricacies of video from SEO standpoint but today I will concentrate on the SEO basket.

Twitter
The new dude on your street? Everyone is twittering away and I am salivating at the prospect of using this to up my ranking. This won’t work in isolation but can add some flavor to your SEO work.

Social bookmarking
Delicious , Digg and  a hundreds of other bookmarking sites have mushroomed thanks to the SEO community. Another instance of people using something for an altogether different purpose than it is meant for. I  still wonder at the ingenuity of  people who have turned bookmarking sites into SEO vehicles. But it works. Take my word for it.

Forums
Social networking sites like FaceBook and MySpace have given birth to millions of forums. Again, I suspect that many if not most are creatures created by an SEO expert . Another great way to improve your ranking.

Blogs
Blogs are my all time favorite. I like to use them for creating links. Some say it doesn’t work .But me says that it certainly does no harm. In addition I can vent my feelings nicely . Seriously, blog can do wonders to your search engine ranking.
