Well this is getting more and more debatable now. With the latest Google update, it is more clear now that it is giving more and more importance to the content within the <body> tags of your Yahoo Store pages. It makes more sense to place your most relevant content right below the <body> tag. It really helps to put a tagline containing your most relevant keywords right below the body tag so that it picked up by googlebot. If you can use headline tags like h1, h2, h, it gives more weight to your keywords and google likes it too.

It will be an added bonus if you put in your metas too. Google does show meta information on the results pages. MSN and Yahoo still gives some weight to the keywords and description as the description content appears in SERPs.

So the meta tags may not work 100% by themselve like they used to be but it can definitely add some keyword relevancy to your yahoo store pages.

How to add unique tags to your pages?

For Stores using default templates: You can override the variables for keywords and head-tags on the pages and fill them up with the relevant keywords and description tags.

For Yahoo Stores using custom templates: This can be taken care of easily by using dynamic meta tags which automatically add unique metas to each and every page, old or new page. Click here for Yahoo Store SEO Templates which can be installed on your store. The keywords, titles and description tags are generated automatically based on the content you have on that item or section page. The values can easily be changed if you want.
